Nortel T7316e Offers Dependable Service

By Jill Faulkner

The Nortel T7316E is a business class telephone for multiline use. It provides full features to be used in a business and can operate with up to two lines. This unit has bee a favorite in many companies for several years and is considered one of the most dependable of such systems.

The display of this phone offers two lines, each displaying 16 characters each. It is menu driven and the phone offers three soft keys for use with the menu. In addition, users have access to 24 memory buttons, the most of which include multisegment icons. This model is designed for use by individuals who experience a high call volume, such as managers, supervisors and executives as well as other business professionals.

Installer reviews show this to be one of the best models available over the past few years. It offers compatibility with several different phone systems. The clear display can be customized by users. A quick reference card includes instructions to program the unit in order to meet the user's specific needs.

Consumers appreciate the durability offered in these telephones. They are reported to continue to work after a fall from a desk or counter. In addition, they seem less susceptible to the extreme conditions encountered in shops and warehouses where high temperatures can quickly disable other units.

These units are designed for users of the Norstar 3x8, CICS and MICS phone systems. When connected to these systems they include a light to let users know when lines or extensions are busy or available. They also support both caller ID and voice mail.

The telephones offer a speakerphone feature allowing users to multitask with the hands free option. This is ideal for data entry while talking with a caller or in taking notes concerning important information from a caller. Additionally, the feature allows remote conferencing with individuals unable to attend a meeting.

Although most users will place the device on a desktop, they also offer the option for a wall mount to keep the desk space free. The adjustable LCD screen allows for easy viewing using either mount. Sets work for wall mount using either a special phone jack cover or with the traditional jack and cord threaded through a slot allowing for flush mounting against the wall.

While these devices are known for their reliability, consumers should be aware that the manufacturer is no longer in business. For most businesses using these units, this will not make any difference in the use of the phone or PBX system. However, if customer support is needed from the manufacturer it will not be available.

When one needs to expand a PBX system used in a business, the addition of a Nortel T7316E is a durable office telephone. It supports multiline PBX systems and may be used with the handset, as a speaker phone or with a wireless headset. It offers features designed specifically for those spending much of the day on the phone. While no longer being manufactured, there are many remanufactured devices available that can provide years of service.
