Interesting Information About Conspiracy Documentaries

By Nita McKinney

There is something in the human character that loves intrigue. There are many topics that fit this genre. Examples of popular subjects are presidential assassinations, extraterrestrial beings from other planets, or the 9/11 truth movement. There is even a website dedicated to conspiracy documentaries.

The Illuminati is among the most popular of paranoid myths. The Illuminati is a secret cabal whose members are the true masters of the world. Historians are not totally sure about the origins of the Illuminati story. They do know that it grew out of the Freemasonry movement, but there seems to be competing histories of this mysterious cult. Some say they are behind international communism while others claim they control the world's banking and monetary systems.

The 9/11 terrorists attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon have spawned the 9/11 truth movement. This movement believes the United States government colluded with terrorists to commit these horrible crimes. They claim physical evidence from the twin towers proves that crashing planes could not have brought the buildings down. There are several versions of these theories going around. Some believe that the government knew about the terror plot but did nothing to stop it. Others believe that the government actually blew up the buildings with explosives.

The assassination of President John F. Kennedy has fueled many theories. The Warren Commission conducted an investigation that lasted ten months. It reported that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in shooting the President. Many Americans have been skeptical of the Warren Commission's conclusions. Later, in 1978, the United States House Select Committee on Assassinations determined that President Kennedy was most likely killed as a part of a conspiracy. However, they could not determine the exact details of the plot.

There are common traits that most conspiracies share. Often there is an illicit group that operates in complete secrecy and who pull the strings behind the scenes without anyone ever knowing about it. It seems impossible that these plots, which require a large number of accomplices to implement, would never be exposed. Perhaps followers really want to believe, despite the outlandishness, because it fulfills deeply ingrained psychological needs.

When events in the world are chaotic and violent, people look for answers that help explain what is going on. Humans are uncomfortable when they do not have explanations for the events that are rocking their world. These seemingly crazy theories help explain the unexplainable. This brings comfort to some people.

This is not a new phenomenon. By controlling the population's emotions, political institutions and leaders can maintain political power. Often it is powerful institutions that are disseminating the stories as a means of control, to consolidate power, and ensure their political dominance.

For fans of these tales of plots and machinations, a website that specializing in conspiracy documentaries is a treasure trove of mysterious stories and entertainment. You do not have to totally believe in everything you read or hear. But it can certainly get you thinking that everything in this world might not be really what it appears to be.
