A Brief Look At Spiritual Romance Novels

By Christa Jarvis

When it comes to genres, there are those that are quite well known, and others which are derived based on those searching for a specific subject and title. Most always, books related to religion are found in the Religious or Occult section of bookstores and libraries. Although, when it comes to Spiritual Romance Novels, these are often shelved along with other fiction titles.

Although related at times, religious and spirituality are two distinct and different entities. Religion often represents individuals who have a belief in a specific area like Creationism. Whereas, spirituality is often used to define a number of different spiritual pathways which are other than Christian. These can include Buddhism, Paganism and others.

While most titles related to seeking a spiritual path of enlightenment are non-fiction, a great number of Christian based writings by Christian authors are fictional though some attempt to spread a message of peace, love, understanding and God. Unfortunately, it is not always clear this is where some stories are headed until well into the storyline.

When it comes to books like Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, Awakening to Your Life's Purpose, the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, along with the well known book and movie, The Secret, each include positive aspects from multiple religions.

All of these and other titles look into different religious beliefs and pathways while taking the reader on a journey of the soul. In some cases, its as if the book is a time machine which can be set to past, present or future. Depending on the individual's past experience, some titles may be more inviting than others.

An open mind is an important tool when it comes to enjoying a variety of material. For one thing, any book is going to be written in the tone of the author's own belief system. There are those who can write objectively and those whom desire to write about beliefs. The reason for either is generally to spread a message, whether that message may be good or bad, true or false, known or unknown.

Books can provide a great escape from reality. While some may have religious tones, readers need to recognize that any book is most likely going to have aspects with which one may disagree. As this is the case, readers who maintain an open mind and can agree to disagree with authors from time to time, often read ore books.

Whether interested in getting lost in a great romance tale, or looking to gain information on a number of belief systems and pathways, books are often a great place to start. For those who have issues with regards to Christianity, or other religions, it can often be good to read a variety of reviews on sites like Goodreads and others before embarking upon the journey.
