Film & The Top 3 Mistakes Art Students Must Avoid

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

Film is, without question, one of the broadest fields that can be associated with art. I am sure that anyone can attest to such a sentiment, especially after seeing the degree of work that has composed film, from action to romance. However, everyone has a starting point, meaning that some missteps have to be accounted for. As a matter of fact, here are 3 of the biggest ones that will, ultimately, aid in the creation of the most striking movie.

If you want to talk about the biggest mistakes in film, you have to consider casting. One of the main reasons for this, as you'll come to learn, is that many actors and actresses wind up with roles they are ill-suited for. While they may not be bad actors, the truth of the matter is that not everyone can digest the material they are given. As a result, the mistake of poor casting has to be considered when films, of all genres, are being created.

Empathy is one of the most important elements in a film, which makes matters all the more concerning when it's missing. "The Wizard of Oz" is an effective example, one of the reasons being Dorothy and her goal of returning home. The movie presents the character in such a way that makes her likable, which means that you want her to succeed that much more. This is empathy at work, which is absolutely necessary for the sake of film production.

To cap this off, I think that it's important to cover marketing and how many film students tend to overlook it. One of the reasons for this, at least from my perspective, is that advertising often costs money to take part in. However, there are inexpensive processes to take up. Many movie studios utilize vehicle wraps, while others may be more reliant on social media and the Internet at large. Whatever the case may be, marketing should not be cast to the side.

If you're going to become a film major, there's no doubt that certain missteps can be made. However, there are ways to ensure that these are avoided. You have to make sure that you have the proper education set in place, which can be earned from a reputable art college. From that point forward, you can put what you have learned to the test. After you have taken part in this endeavor, you will soon find yourself making movies that many will enjoy.
