How To Choose The Perfect Photo Gifts For Friends And Family Members

By Betty Collins

Many people use photographs to document the lives of their friends and relatives. If you know that there is a particular picture that is special to them, you may want to consider giving them one of the many photo gifts that are available today. Here are some tips and pointers that you can use to make selecting these items as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

Pictures were often harder to put on items in the past. This is because cameras used film which, when developed, created a physical negative. Prints were then made from those negatives. Because the image did not exist in the form of a computer file, it was hard to put a particular picture on items to turn them into gifts. Now, digital file images can simply be uploaded to a computer and a designer can manipulate them so that they will fit well on a physical object.

An important first step in the gift selection process is to find a picture to use. You should think about whether or not you want to use a picture of that person in your gift or whether you want to use a picture of someone else who is significant to the recipient. This can narrow your choices down and make it easier to choose an image.

One obvious choice is to put significant pictures into an album. This can be one with photos printed directly onto the pages or one with spaces where printed pictures can be slipped inside for storage. If you know that the recipient does not have a lot of room to store an album you may want to look at getting a digital frame that will display a series of pictures. These can often have additional images added to them.

The amount that an item will get used is something to think about. If it is used a lot it can end up wearing out or fading much more quickly than you might want. For example, a person who loves coffee may like a mug that has an image printed on it but it may fade if it is washed day after day.

If you know that someone uses a computer, you might want to consider putting a photo on a mouse pad or other computer accessory. Most images will work well in this way because a mouse pad is a flat object that is roughly the same shape as a photograph.

Calendars make great gifts that are easy to add photos to. Keep in mind that you will need to choose a series of pictures. Usually, if you are creating a wall calendar you will need at least twelve images if you want a flip-style calendar. You can also choose a desk model or one that acts as a perpetual date keeper. Any of these options are helpful and beautiful choices.

Once you know what kind of item you want to give you can then find out how much it will cost for you to create your gift. Some websites offer options for you to choose from and many of these have reasonable prices as well. If you are hesitant about using an online company you can look in your area to see if there are custom printing companies that you can collaborate with.
