Learn How To Work As A Voice Artist

By Timothy Brown

Throughout the entertainment industry, there are variety of different kinds of actors. Whether one chooses to act in feature films, television, on stage, in commercial advertising, animation, or one of the other genres, there is plenty of work to go around. One rather popular choice is to become a voice artist.

There are certain skill elements and requirements set for each genre of acting. One such example is the different ways in which the vocal arts are used. Individuals will need certain techniques to work jobs such as the sound of telephone ads, computerized systems, television shows, radio commercials, animated movies, video games, and so much more.

Most people do not realize that vocal acting requires a lot of health maintenance, hard work and preparation. In this field, looks are not important, but the way one sounds is how they make their money. The actor must be careful not to strain their chords, and should be diligent about attending regular training sessions and improving their skills.

Anyone considering entering this field would be advised to first invest in some high quality vocal training. One should choose an instructor that has plenty of experience working with people in this profession. Such classes will help an actor learn how to breathe properly, control speech breaks, and pronounce words and sounds clearly.

The next thing one would need to do is to make a demo tape, that shows their full ability range, to submit with each resume'. The best results generally come when someone has this done in a professional studio, which will cancel out any distracting background noise and clean up the technical imperfections. Most clients now require that these types of submissions be done either as digital media or put onto a CD.

Finding jobs is much easier once one has chosen an area and a level to concentrate on. International, National, Regional, and Local are the four basic categories in this acting genre. Each one is a viable source of income with its own set of rewards, challenges, and requirements.

After picking a main genre and level, the time has come to begin submitting resume's and demo tapes. An important part of the process is applying for every job one has any interest in, and being patient when it comes to rejection or denial. Keep in mind that thousands of people are vying for the same position, which means one must be diligent and persistent in order to get noticed and win those rolls.

Video games, public announcements, children's programming. Television commercials, animated features, radio ads, GPS systems and so much more. Provide endless possibilities for vocal actors. All different sounding voices are needed, so even those who sound rough, beautiful, strange or unique, can all find work. Advantages are gained by receiving regular training, submitting a professionally recorded demo tape, and being persistent and diligent when sending out resume's and applying for a lot of roles.
