Painting With Alcohol Ink On Canvas

By David Anderson

Spirit can be used for plenty of things, most notably, a Friday night that ends up as a Saturday morning filled with headaches, regrets but tons of memories to remember. But alcohol has other uses besides temporarily picking up the spirit such as being used as a cleaning agent and medicine. But one of liquids lesser known uses is as Alcohol Ink on Canvas.

The entire ethos of working with such a medium in the first place can be attributed to one thing. Experimentation. The use of alcohol inks is ideal for those people who want to try new things, whether or not they re any good or not. All in the name of, that s right, experimentation.

Making use of the dye is very easy and is as simple as spreading a few drops on an applicable surface and spreading them around until they dry. This can be done repeatedly with other colors as well or, an initiative can be sought out to make fancy designs to fill the surface that happens to be worked on, be it metal, plastic or paper.

Just like anything else that screams fun, protective measures need to be in place in the unlikely, but the possible chance for injury. Therefore, it s imperative that, when working with this type of ink, it be done so in a well-ventilated area in order to prevent inhaling fumes that can be harmful to a person s health.

It s also not only a great idea but wise a wise one to wear protective gear around your hands. Unless there s a strong prevailing attitude that it will ruin what is being created and your content with paint around your fingernails for the next 2 to 3 days. Not a train smash if you stay at home, different ball game when in a corporate venue on a Monday morning.

There are two ways to about said fingernail excuse if the use of this specific product gets the creative motor running. The first option is to make a purchase of inks that are already made and ready to go from any online or art store that happens to stock them. The biggest benefit to this is instant gratification and satisfaction of buying something that can be used then and there.

The other option, not as simple but still as effective. This is because the alternative involves making your own alcohol ink from scratch. There are plenty of tutorial videos to follow and use available on Youtube, as well as some websites that give detailed step by step instructions.

As for the techniques and technicalities that come with painting, they all still apply as the only thing that s changed is the medium in which that paintbrush lands. So you shouldn t forget to rinse off the paintbrush if more than one color is being used in order to avoid making a mess of the colors and that one should paint using the whole entirety of the brush rather than 2 or 3 bristles that make it up. All of which should serve you well in painting with alcohol ink and making psychedelic like artwork.
