The Attractions Of A Modern And Contemporary Fine Art Gallery

By Patricia Russell

Among the trappings of modernity are the conditions of openness, globalization, and cosmopolitanism. This would have been impossible and unthinkable in days of yore. This values apply in nearly all aspects of life and work, as in the art world. Back then, only the really talented or those of the noble lineage could pass for valuable patronage. And in recent history, the works of so called Master, who, as it is, are long dead, were the only artists that mattered. These divisive walls are gradually crumbling down, however, and more and more modern and contemporary fine art gallery pennsylvania are up for the taking.

Contemporary works range up to many varieties and categories. One would be hard put to find a tell all, umbrella definition for it. If one is a discerning art critic or appreciator, however, he may be able to draw the line and identify the differences that are rife in the so called classics and modernist outputs.

The types and movements are many and various. You have pop art, which was pioneered by Andy Warhol. You also have photorealism, adhered to by various painters who create and establish such hyper realistic paintings or drawings that they almost seem like windows. They works with everything from landscapes, portraits, and some such iconography.

This enterprise didnt start off as so, however. Scholars and historians concur on the fact that the phase of contemporary art started sometime in the 1950s, which is relatively not too long ago. The pioneer artists who were widely accepted and popular in their days include Picasso, Matisse, and Mondrian, who revolutionized painting for all time through their abstract and cubist magnum opuses.

European modernism also subsumed surrealist works. You get the artworks of Edvard Munch, which could have been quite, say, different in its day and age. Needless to say, these opened up new areas of possibilities and exploration to artists who think and feel out of place in their classical upbringing.

Suffice it to say, contemporary art is something that is made in and near this current point in time. It sprung from postmodernist ideals that subscribe to the theory that just because you cant draw a neat circle, you arent an artist at all. Continually, extremely variegated and newfangled ideas are constantly cropping up.

The plethora of movements most common in contemporary artworks include and are not limited to pop, street, and urban artworks, which were rife in the 1950s. Sensationalism also played a key role. Andy Warhol, for example, painted a mere can of soup and people went wild. Same goes for Mondrian who painted 1 dimensional cubes with primary colors. Feats like this establish the position of modern art in this present day.

An important aspect that is worthy of not is that contemporary artists essentially work in a world that is globalized, culturally diverse, and progressively technologically advancing. Therefore, they continually come up with dynamic and revolutionary ways to put a concrete stamp in this fluid field. More and more methods, concepts, materials, themes, and ideas are constantly being given for the taking.

The acceptance and appreciation of artwork that may be deemed untraditional start with an open mind and free dialogue. People may then incur a change of ideas when it comes to what identifies an art piece. As far as we are concerned, if its something that rings a bell in your social and world consciousness or else plucks the heartstrings of humanity, then its indeed a fine artwork.
