By Juliette Cruz

A promotional website is one good way a person can spread the word about his musical career. This applies to many musical genres including rock, jazz, soul and even hip hop. When first starting out, an artist many not be able to afford a large site. But, as time goes on, he may eventually want to increase his online presence. An effective promotional site needs to provide interesting and recent information about the artist. Employ a few things when putting together a Midwest hip hop artist website.

Compose a homepage. Have the homepage contain the most recent news concerning the artist. Provide news in regards to recent industry awards or notable performances here. Be sure to provide prominent photographs of the artist here.

Put together a biography page. The biography page includes background information about the hip hop performer. Be brief with details like early education and activities unless it is very interesting. Instead, tell where the performer was born and raised; a little about his family; musical knowledge and influences; and notes about his career progression. Mention industry awards, nominations or other honors the artist has received on this page. If he has earned many awards, create another page to list them to avoid clutter on the bio page.

Compose a performance page. Provide a list of upcoming performances. Provide the venue, time and date. Highlight any performances that are free of charge as well as if there are minimum age requirements for admission. Make a note of promotional and charitable appearances on this web page. A list of completed performance can be listed here on this web page, too.

Include a press page. Provide copies of positive performance and reviews in addition to feature magazine or newspaper interviews and articles. Post links to Internet videos and articles.

Include a community page. The community page is where the artist and fans can connect with each other. Things to consider for this page include a message board, guest book, street team information, a blog, mailing lists and links to social media networks.

Put together a music page. The public wants to listen to samples of the music the performer has made. Offer free samples of recent and older songs. Include quality videos of past concerts. As a bonus, provide lyrics of selected songs.

Incorporate an online store. Sell albums from the website. Also, sell merchandise such as posters, buttons, hats and T-shirts.

Design a contact page. The contact page tells how to get in touch with the Midwest hip hop artist or his personal representatives. List an email address, mailing address and business phone number. Links to social media networks can also be included on this page. This page should also give the contact phone numbers and email addresses for booking agents and personal manager of the performer. This helps music journalists, club promoters and charity organizers ascertain who they should try to contact first.
