Elvis Presley Books For A Great Read

By Marie Jackson

Probably the biggest music icon of the 20th century, many Elvis Presley books have been written. Thousands of words have been put to paper documenting the life of the most famous singer in the world. Many of these have been written by people close to him, including family members and business associates.

Not all of these publications have been authorized and may contain questionable material. Still others have been categorized as almost pure fiction or at best speculation on the part of the author. Following early death of The King in 1977, many works have been reported as made up sensationalism.

There are however plenty of tomes on the market which have been authorized either by Elvis himself or close relatives. Memoirs have also been published by his confidantes and very close friends. Recollections from his daughter, ex-wife and others closest to him have made their way to print. These often include archives from the estate and private documents that have come to light since his death.

Other books of some interest are those that focus purely on his music, film and live shows. Many of these publications are very detailed with dates and times of studio sessions and even the band members involved on certain tracks recorded. A large number of his musical associates and personal staff have given interviews and recollections of life working with Elvis.

Following his very successful early accomplishments he decided he would enter the world of acting. Numerous films were made during a relatively short time and although not the finest of film actors many accounts, stories and photographs from these Hollywood days have been put into print. Some of his closest friends and fellow actors have over the years decided to share their memories and tales from these times.

During his military career after he was drafted into the U. S. Army Presley was stationed mostly in Germany. Many of the people who were close to him at this time have also put pen to paper and recorded their thoughts and memories of these times. These publications make for interesting reading as this was a time of mixed emotions for the star with the death of his mother and meeting his future wife Priscilla.

Perhaps the books written during the latter part of his life are the most interesting read for fans. During this period of his life he was constantly recording or performing, mostly in Las Vegas and mixing with some of the stars also working there. Also this was the time when his health was in decline and he was becoming more and more interested in spirituality and there are some interesting books featuring copies of hand written notes from Presley recording his thoughts.

Historians, music fans or devotees of the man himself are inundated with reading material on Elvis. Many millions of words have gone onto paper chronicling the life and times of the biggest star in recording history. Publications can be found online, in high street book stores and in libraries around the globe on this much loved man.
