All About Disc Jockeys Or DJs

What better way to make the party crowds grow wild than with the topnotch skills of the DJ. With their technical knowhow and creative artistry, disc jockeys are indeed your main men. Of course, DJs are not just limited to parties and clubbing get together. Most quintessentially, you can also hear them from the airwaves as radio personalities who broadcast music in radio stations, FM, AM, digital, and even over the Internet. You likewise have the club DJs who play at musical events, parties, festivals, private events, or specific venues.

Technicalities are actually rife in this field. Disc jockeys are given to using a smorgasbord of equipment, devices, and tools. Long ago, it used to be gramophone records and cassettes. Nowadays, however, theres a whole host of new software and technology that are even more innovated than ever before, from digital audio files, specialized laptops, you name it.

Disc jockeying is something that has kept track of the technological age. Depending on your whims, either analog or digital can be better than the other. One may prefer straight digital setups or else the old school vinyl records. Both have their advantages, and of course, they also have their disadvantages.

The equipment used in this regard are pretty much considerable. Conventionally, you have the turntables and mixers. And then you have specialized CD players that can play digital files from USBs, SD cards, and other flash drives. Software is also more specialized nowadays, and these can be played out on portable laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other hardware.

DJing also includes a tad bit of talent. After all, your ability in this regard is also measured by how good you are in keeping up with the beat. You should align them to the music sources so as to prevent the clashing of rhythms and some such sounds that would amount to a cacophony. The blends or transitions from one song to another should be smooth and pleasant to the ears.

The technicalities here can be pretty hard to grasp. One should learn how to bring about smooth transitioning. On the other hand, there is also the scratch, from scribble to baby scratches, to drags, to pitched scratches. One should also be able to match beats and transition songs in an uninterrupted manner. Cueing songs is important in this regard, and that involves a lot of technicalities, such a moving the pitch and speed slider.

Of course, we cant forget mentioning the quintessential electronic effects that are very particular to this field. For instance, you have the reverb, equalizer, chorus, delay, octave, and much, much more. There are also all the instruments from synthesizers, musical keyboards, sequencers, and samplers.

Needless to say, this is a DJ has to have multidimensional talents and skills. It should subsume both artistic and technical capabilities. They should have the creativity to pull off a newfangled style or genre, and they should have the knowhow in handling audio equipment, using mixing consoles, and some such. One qualification that is often relegated to the sidelines but is nonetheless important is their ability to develop rapport with the audience. Their knowledge regarding their genre should be pretty much extensive, but ideally, it should stretch well beyond that.
