Stories Of Miracles In The Scriptures

By Marissa Velazquez

Miracles are events that do not follow natural rules. For example, a person who is completely healed of HIV can be said to have received a miracle. Similarly, when a doctor tells a patient to prepare for death in a couple of days and the patient keeps living for years, the doctor will come to the conclusion that his patient received a miracle. There are similar situations in the Bible. Stories of miracles in the Bible are there to equip you and make you realize that there is no impossibility on earth.

Faith is the primary factor for a miracle. This can be seen in the story of the woman with the issue of blood who got healed just by touching a part of Jesus' cloth. Before that fateful day, she had been visiting several medical experts who had finally given up on her. Her problem lasted 12 years before she met Jesus.

Another interesting one is the healing of Blind Bartimeus. Bartimeus always begged along the street until one day he heard Jesus was passing by. Even though he had not met Jesus personally before then, he had heard so many things about Him. This prompted him to shout with a loud voice asking Jesus to have mercy on him. In the end, he received his sight for the first time since his birth.

The man called legion (many demons) had been abandoned by his people who thought there was no way he could regain consciousness. Although his relations had given up on him, Jesus did not forget this man who was located at the riverside. He went there specifically for him, to show him his love and care. Jesus expelled the demons from him and sent them to the pigs. The demons drove the pigs to the river where they got drowned.

Again, the disciples looked afar off and saw Jesus walking on the sea to meet them in the boat. Simon Peter asked Him to bid him come if He was the one and Jesus told him to come along. Jesus walked on water to make his disciples know that nothing was impossible for them if they looked unto him.

Jesus often taught the multitude on how to get to Heaven. In one of his gatherings, there were five thousand men including women and children who had been famished after listening to His sermons. Jesus told his disciples about the need to feed the multitude and then one of them got five loaves of bread and two fish from a boy in the crowd. After blessing the food, He used it to feed them and there were twelve baskets remaining.

One of the greatest miracles in the Bible is the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus was sick for some time before his death. Even after his death, Jesus still delayed for four days before going to Bethany. When Jesus went, Lazarus had already been buried so he ordered that he be removed from the tomb. After praying, Lazarus came back to life and the people around became more astonished.

The Old Testament also has many stories of miracles. Some of them include the exit of the Israelites through the Red Sea, the creation of the world, destroying the walls of Jericho and the restoration of Naaman. All these stories are recorded to let everyone know that miracles are still possible today.
