By Sally Delacruz

You having been thinking of becoming a model and have eventually managed to gather up enough courage to attend casting calls NYC. These are sometimes also referred to as agency open calls or go-sees. Having a new outfit and perfect makeup is just the beginning of the interview.

Many people will normally start off going to open casting calls. These are auditions that anyone can go to. Every person there will be given a chance to show the directors what they have got. This is one of the best ways to get noticed and the more you attend the more you will stand out. This is more likely to get you that cast you have been dreaming of.

Whether you have already submitted your photo on line always take some extras with you. They need to be the most up-to-date ones as any that are older than a month will not be considered. A professional photo is not necessarily needed as long as the snapshots looks like you do in person.

Don't feel overwhelmed when entering the interview room as there are likely to be more than one person in attendance. Try to remain relaxed and always be prepared and organized. Keep a pen and paper handy for anything that you may want to remember and jot down. They are aware that this is nerve wrecking and will try to make you feel at ease.

There are some stipulations that need to be carefully followed. Always be at least 15 minutes early this will help the director to keep their schedule flowing smoothly. A professional headshot photo as well as your acting resume will need to be bought with. Ensure that both of these are stapled in one corner back to back. This will not be returned to you when you have finished.

An evening acting program is also offered on a part time basis for those that have normal day to day jobs. These usually take place twice a week and rehearsal time is required. Attendance of all classes and being professional is mandatory. Stage combat and Shakespeare classes are taken at different times in the program.

Many agencies will want to take a few snapshots of you with your swimwear on and to take measurements. Rather take a bikini than a one piece. If they like what they see and they offer you a contract, don't sign on the first meeting. Think about what you have seen and been told and then if you are still interested you can sign. Never leave your decision for more than a week as this will give the impression that you are unable to make up your mind.

For those aspiring singers do not take along a tape or CD to sing along with, this will not be allowed. An accompanist will be provided for your use. You will need to take along you own vocal sheet of music. To be able to go to casting calls is very exciting as this could be the beginning of the rest of your life.
