How To Produce Better Audio For Video Production

By Phyllis Schroeder

Digital recording equipment these days are getting more and more accurate when capturing audio. It is now possible to capture audio with crisp and vivid details. Of course, there are still distracting noises that get captured that might ruin the whole video production Edmonton. To save up wasting your films, here are some tips to have better audio.

First, you have to make sure that you are using the right microphone for the filming. There are different types of microphones available in the market these days. You must make sure that the right microphone is positioned at the right spot since that can make a big difference in the result of the film you are shooting.

In the filming, a good location for shooting should be found. Be sure to avoid picking out a location for shooting with problematic sound environment. You must scope the area beforehand then. When getting a location like this is unavoidable, you better determine where the problem noise sources are. You have to resolve these sources for the filming then.

You have times when you are shooting outdoors. This can be unavoidable. You must make sure to put proper protection on your microphone so that it is protected against harmful elements like wind and rain. If you want better audio and protect it from harmful elements at the same time, then the least you can do is wrap the microphone with wind protection.

If you can, you should also consider capturing the audio of this film using a separate recorder. While there are cameras that have an automatic gain circuit maintaining the input recording levels, these might not give you the desired result. Having a separate audio recorder allows you to control the levels and thus produce better results.

A dedicated audio software can come in handy as well. That is why you must consider using this when you are editing the film. Of course, you should start by familiarizing yourself with how to use the dedicated audio software. You must learn how to work on the audio through these software to obtain a good result.

When you are using the audio software, you should always practice with it. If you do that, then it should be possible for you to make smoother edits in the future. When you have become proficient with the edits, you will make them virtually unnoticeable. With that, you can obtain better audio for the film.

You should then become familiar with mixing concepts and EQ. When it comes to mixing audio tracks, you cannot do this effectively by simply adjusting the volume levels and the transitions in between them. With the EQ, if you do this properly, you can make voices stand out, tame overly bright sounding segments, and minimize extraneous rumblings.

You have a number of secret weapons you can employ to get better sounds. If you remember what equipment you can use in the film, even when they are not used primarily for what you have in mind, you can surely get better sounds for the film. You must learn what equipment you can use as your secret weapon beforehand then. It should be worth it.
