How To Get Started In Acting For Those With The Passion

By Vicki Diaz

How to get started in acting can be tricky and confusing especially if you do not get important help from professionals or experienced actors. You should know that getting to be an established actor starts from a single step. Below are some tips that can help you get on toes in the role play.

If it happens that you had acquired vast experience through drama in high school, had a drama coach or had participated in workshops heavily involved in performing and you feel that it is at this point that you want to take your passion and pursuit a notch higher, you are in the right direction and by all means proceed.

There is a famous acting book that is written by Don Richardson which is a good read for those who want to pursue a career in stage performance. People who are in the stage performance business are in need of gaining experience from their fellow veteran actors; suffice to say also that this is not any different for the agents.

As you progress in your career and you want to remain relevant, then you should look for a representative. A representative is not necessary during the initial stages but as you progress it should be your primary consideration. A representative increases your chances of getting roles whose prices are competitive as they are usually in contact with the major producers and play directors.

When referring to focusing all your energies on looking for an agent, it does not mean that you have to go for the gala parties or cocktails trying to look for people who will get you in the industry. Although it is positive to network, it is strongly advocated that you look and hunt for an agent who has the mandate of getting you a job in 90 days, and when they are over, then if not satisfied, look for another agent.

Resume is another element that is of great importance to an aspiring actor as it contains all the information about them that the cast directors would be interested to know. The resume is always stapled with the photo of the actor and it contains information such as education background and experience. Expert advice states that in case an actor has done advertisements, they should be written in the resume with upon request clause.

As an actor, you will also need photographs that are referred to as head shots in the industry. The head shots can be photographs from the shoulder up although others will take from the knees up. These head shots are like the business cards as they have names of actors printed on them.

While considering how to get started in acting, it is ideal to note that an audition could also be like, that you will take around 2 hours, just most probably driving and then waiting for the director to audition you at the reception area? In that particular day, your agent may happen to summon you a few times for an audition at a couple of hours. A reputable teacher called Don Richardson, gives out this advice, do not forget the survival part if you want to be a delve into performance.
