No More International Call Charges with Voip.

By Saul Saresi

So the decision has been made, and you are now the proud owner of an IP telephone system complete with your very own specialised Voip phone. You're feeling good about things, such as all the money you'll now be saving each time you make a call, and how good it will be to talk to people with perfect, crystal clear audio quality and no risk of bad reception.

But as you scour the internet for any last juicy bits of internet telephone information that you may have missed, you realise that there is still a whole world of options out there that you hadn't even considered; options you now feel you need to know as part of your duty to the Voice over IP world. But help is at hand, and here, in this article, is one key piece of information known to only a privileged few.

Whether you're in a business that needs to call internationally on a regular basis, or a personal user who has relatives abroad that he likes to keep in touch with, making regular cross-continental calls can quickly mount up to substantial amounts.

But why would I want to save money on internet calls when they are already so much cheaper than standard call costs? Well, maybe you don't. Maybe you're the kind of person who is happy to think that they are saving enough money as it is. But if you're not one of those people, listen up. The way to save even more money on international calls is this; purchase a separate phone number in the country you wish to call.

If, for example, you live in the UK but your family lives in the USA, certain Voice over IP service providers can provide you with an American phone number, even though you're phone is only in the UK. Once you have a separate number assigned in this way, all calls made to your family will be charged only at local rate. This is also a particularly useful service if you are with a company who conducts a lot of business in a particular country.

Sounds good, doesn't it? As well as making standard calls internationally, making conference calls internationally through an internet telephone system is also a much cheaper and viable alternative. This is because Voip systems use a dial-out as opposed to a dial-in system, meaning one person can call all the participants for a conference call and therefore negating the requirement of anybody phoning in to the call, and saving significant costs for the participants.

Efforts are continually being made to entice people away from the good old standard and trusted analogue phone system and to embrace Voice over IP technology. The latest attempt at this has been to bring out a range of handsets that can work through any internet telephone system as well as any traditional landline system, offering the advantage of Voip with the comfort of analogue.

The advantages of this technology are clear, and the future of telecommunications is wholly apparent for anyone and everyone to see. And although it may still be some years before the majority of people are operating this system, the time will come, and when it does all of the non-believers will be wondering why they didn't embrace Voip technology sooner.
