Creating Good Instrumental Rap Beats

By Gloria Mason

Making instrumental rap beats is a challenging process. If you listen to this music, you will notice that many are repetitive however these do make a huge difference to how the song sounds. It creates more impact. If you are one of the many artists who are aiming to produce this kind of tune, the following are some tips.

It is always a good thing to have the best equipment possible. Keep in mind that the instruments you have can limit the number of sounds you can make and will affect the quality of the sound. If you are serious enough about your musical endeavor then it should be worth it to save up for state of the art equipment.

Study the genre. It can never hurt to know how the music began and how it has evolved throughout history. Observing how the genre has changed with time will introduce you to different sounds. Understanding how the music is made will be a big help when you are also trying to make your own sound.

It can be beneficial to study the recognized artists in these genre, especially those that consistently make it to the charts. You might be able to learn something new and learn how they became so successful. Keep in mind however that you should make something new and not create music that sound like what they did.

This is the time to let your creative juices flow. Explore the different methods and styles and create one that is distinctly your own. You could play around with different timings and different combination of beats during the process. Listen to your various creations several times as one of these may consistently catch your attention.

Most of the time, these beats will be used as a background to the song. When there are lyrics present, then read and understand these words. These works evoke emotion and this emotion should be something that is reflected in all the elements of the song. If the lyrics portray anger for example, then come up with something that stirs that emotion.

A lot of artists use special effects with their music. There is nothing wrong with doing so as this can also contribute to the distinctness of your piece. What you must remember though is that the piece should not rely too much on these effects. This can cause the sound to distort so that the piece becomes unpleasant to listen to.

Try something different every once in a while. An artist will have to grow and evolve or else he will be producing the same kind of music year after year. Your style may be a big hit with the audience now but this will not always be the case. It is a good idea to push your artistic boundaries and try something you have not tried before.

Creating good instrumental rap beats will not be easy and will entail a lot of work. If you are however a dedicated artist, the challenge should not put you off. By studying the genre and practicing continuously, you can develop your technique. You will need creativity and good equipment if you want to make it.
