Piano Teacher Burnout Problems and Solutions

By Travis Ayres

Motivation, competence, and knowledge go hand in hand in the life of a piano teacher, they help him to be himself and bring out the life in him unto the student. If the need be, the teacher can take a refresher course and rejuvenate the inactive part of him which need to come alive for him to be himself. Help yourself with the fruit of your work, that is, your music; use it to bring life to your system. It works. Music is the tonic for the mind, perhaps that is why we have lots of rich musicians today, because a lot of people want to hear their music and pay tem doing so, your mind need it too though you are a teacher of music, listen to it often and get inspiration and new life.

When you listen to the music of established and popular musicians you will always get motivation, and at the same time learn new things which you do not know about before, every good teacher must do this. As a matter of fact several others reasons can cause burnout in a piano teacher, some of them very remote and peculiar to individuals. Student's attitude can cause serious burnout for teachers, this is another point I must mention here. When they fail to grasp what the teacher is teaching even after several attempts the teacher can have a breakdown. Do not look at the pay alone, you must also look at satisfaction and fulfillment which you will get from the right students who are ready to learn, let this help you in setting your standard and keep to it. Be patient with the students as to determine where they stand in the area of talent and skills; do not judge them too early, which can be a grave mistake.

Discovering and adhering to a rule of learning that will help the student to learn effectively is a must as students have various factors that help them to learn and understand things easily. Many teachers thinks that this is a waste of time, or simply refuse to find about enough information about the students and at the end find s out that students are not enjoying their lessons. Not going overboard in everything you do is still important, but you would have to sit with the student to find out how you can plan your class in a way that he will enjoy it and learn fast. Set this as the rule and keep to it as much as possible.

As you already know, knowledge is not static but dynamic, learn, and keep learning, do not stop because you are a teacher and you have some students you trained that are doing well, you must keep learning to remain on top.

Always go for the best, both for yourself and for your students. With this you will end u giving your students a life full of passion for music, born out of the desire to help others live a life of peace and fulfillment that music performance is meant to be. It is an atmosphere of standards that helps young people to learn effectively just as it happens to the adult.

Students will watch out for you try to keep to these standards, do ensure that they see it in you. Your prospective students should be made to know about information like fees payment class behavior, required standards for admission, etc through forums like adverts and printed brochures. Let everybody coming to you know exactly what you offer and what they stand to get.
