You And Your IPhone - Tips And Tricks

By Dinah Joe Chavez

Have you been wanting to get an iphone but are scared that you won't understand how to use this latest piece of technology? Well don't be afraid because there is a wealth of information available online and in articles such as this that will get you up to speed on this latest technology.

If you are looking for wi-fi for your laptop, you can turn your iPhone into a personal hotspot. This basically turns your 3G signal into wi-fi that any of your other digital devices can use to log onto the Internet. Some carriers charge for this ability, so look into it before trying.

Do you want to extend your battery life? There are a few different things you can do to get the most out of your battery life. One thing you can do is turn down the brightness. Also, turn off any wireless radios when you are not using them. This can give you more battery life.

One of the things that you can do to increase your productivity when searching the internet on the iPhone is to get a bigger keyboard by shifting your phone to a horizontal position. This will allow you to see the characters more clearly, if you have trouble viewing them in the vertical mode.

A great tip if you're thinking about purchasing an iphone is to shop around and do your research before you decide on a plan or even the iphone itself. It might not be the best idea to walk into the apple store and pick one up impulsively because you'll pay more.

Even if you do not plan to use your iPhone for awhile, you should store it with a dead battery. Allow your phone to fully charge each time it is put on the charger instead of letting it run down. Otherwise, you run the risk of adversely affecting the chemical composition of the battery, possibly damaging the phone.

To get personal with your iPhone and Siri, try teaching Siri your family's names. For instance, you can teach Siri your spouse's name. Then instead of speaking out your spouse's full name when you want to call him or her, you can say instead "Call my husband" or "Call my wife." It's much more personable!

If you are searching the internet on your iPhone, click the forward arrow on the middle bottom to forward the link to the page that you are on to your email address. This can be very useful if you are searching your iPhone for important articles and do not have enough space to store them all.

Did you know that you can replace the default icons with others that you would prefer? All you have to do is choose an icon that you do not use very often, then click on it to bring it up. Click on "edit" and you will see your options. Pick an icon you prefer and hold it down, or click and drag.

Download all of your favorite music to your phone whenever you want. You have the freedom to cycle out music from your computer at all times, so having a variety of music is always an option with an iphone. Keep up with your favorite bands and have their latest music on your phone whenever it comes out.

You can create your own ringtone with your iPhone. You no longer have to deal with the ringtones that Apple provides you, and you do not have to pay for them. The free Ringtone Maker app allows you to cut out a clip from one of your favorite songs and turn it into a ringtone in mere seconds.

If you're worried about losing your iPhone, sign up for the free Find My iPhone service. This will allow you to use the phone's GPS to locate where the phone is. You can then either make it ring (so that you can find it if it's near you), or you can lock and wipe the phone's data if it's been stolen.

Turn on character count in your text message settings. Not everyone has an iphone. A simple tweak in the settings will turn on your word count. Leaving the SMS character count visible on your phone will help you be more considerate when texting friends or family without iphones of their own.

No doubt you enjoy listening to music on your iPhones using your ear buds. You probably already know that a single tap on the middle of the controller starts and stops the play. However, a double tap will skip to the next song, and a triple tap will repeat the previous song.

Download the Safari application so that you can have maximum use of your phone. In addition to many other features it offers, Safari allows a user to call a contact without going back to the phone feature. For example, if you find a theater, you want to call online just click on the number, and it will call it for you.

If you are using Safari on your iPhone, it is rather easy to make your keyboard larger. Prior to tapping on the address bar, just turn your iPhone horizontally. This automatically makes Safari go into horizontal mode, which is what makes the keyboard so much larger. To revert back to a normal keyboard, turn the phone back to normal.

Now that you have some tricks to try on your new iPhone, try them out. You are going to find that the iPhone does more than you thought it could. If you take the time to really learn how to use this phone, you are going to be very, very pleased.
