Speed Up your Computer with ABC

By Jerico Mentil

A lot of us find it hard, if not impossible, to keep our computers running as fast as we want them to. Some people even spend a lot of money just to have their computers "tuned-up". But the truth is, keeping your computers FAST and EFFICIENT is not too difficult. You just have to know the steps. Here are the A-B-C's (literally) of keeping your computer at its optimum.

ASSESS - Learn your computer's baseline performance. This does not necessarily mean that you have to rate your computer's speed in every process that it runs. You just need to familiarize yourself with how your computer NORMALLY functions. Make a mental note of how long it takes to load a movie, or how long a program takes before it's fully running. Making a mental note of these things will help you detect any deterioration in your computer's performance. And the earlier you realize that there is a problem, the earlier you can act to fix it.

BLOCK - Install an anti-virus software. If you already have one, make sure that it's updated and run a deep-level scan of your hard disk with it. If possible, also scan for malicious software (also known as malwares) that greatly affect your computer's performance; and Spywares, that steal personal information from your computer. These types of "contaminants" dramatically decrease your computer's performance, causing it to slow down, crash, or even lose important data. Scanning your computer on a regular basis with an effective protective software can keep your computer virus-free and functioning at its best.

CLEAN - Keeping both your hardware clean is as important as keeping it safe. This includes PHYSICAL cleaning, like dusting off your computer every once in a while. Dust can block exhaust vents and jam exhaust fans in a computer and cause your computer to heat up and slow down. Also, keeping you data organized will go a long way in improving your computer's performance. Using tools such as Disk Cleanup, Defragmenter, and Error Checking will make sure that your computer runs smoothly and efficiently. DISK CLEANUP help you remove excess files and programs that you don't need, or just don't use. The DEFRAGMENTER tool re-organizes your computer's data making it easier to find needed files. While the ERROR CHECKING TOOL finds and fixes any corrupted sectors of your hard drive. Running these tools in a regular basis is essential in keeping your computer's speed as high as possible.

Keeping your computer fast and efficient is not as complicated as your think. Sometimes, you just have to know where to start. The first step is ALWAYS learning about your computer and how it works. From there, maintaining your computer's speed is pretty simple. As a matter of fact, is as simple as A-B-C.
